The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the curriculum we follow within our setting, the EYFS establishes guidelines for the education, growth, and well-being of children aged from birth to 5 years. All early years providers registered with Ofsted, including childminders, preschools, nurseries, and school reception classes, are required to adhere to the EYFS standards.
The EYFS sets the standards that all early years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe, it promotes teaching and learning to ensure children’s ‘school readiness’ and gives children the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school & life.
We promote the Early Years Foundation Stage in the following way;
Personal, Social, and Emotional Development (PSED) play a pivotal role in nurturing a positive self-image, fostering respect for others, honing social skills, promoting emotional well-being, and cultivating a favourable attitude towards learning. These elements are fundamental for ensuring school readiness. PSED involves empowering children to build confidence and independence.
Communication and language constitute one of the three primary domains outlined in the statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage. These prime areas hold vital significance in the development of young children, serving as the bedrock for all subsequent learning. In addition to the three prime areas, there are four specific domains. Together, these seven areas of learning and development form the framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.
Physical development is among the three primary domains for learning and development specified in the statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage. These fundamental areas play a crucial role in early years education, serving as the building blocks upon which all subsequent learning is constructed.
As one of the four specific areas outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), literacy focuses on prompting children to connect sounds with letters, initiating their journey into reading and writing. The EYFS framework emphasizes the importance of providing children with access to a diverse array of reading materials to kindle their curiosity and interest.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) mandates that educational settings offer children chances to enhance their abilities in counting, comprehending and employing numbers, solving basic addition and subtraction problems, and describing shapes, spaces, and measurements.
As part of the EYFS framework, Understanding the World (UW) is identified as one of the four specific learning areas. It involves guiding children in making sense of their physical environment and community by creating opportunities for exploration, observation, and learning about people, places, technology, and the surrounding environment.
Children explore and experiment with a variety of media and materials, investigating their properties and engaging in modification and manipulation. This exploration extends to the realms of sounds, patterns, movement, and the utilization of various tools and techniques.
Within the Early Years Foundation Stage, Expressive Arts and Design is one of the seven integral areas aiming to nurture a child’s imagination, creativity, and skills in using diverse media and materials. Children participate in a range of activities, including singing songs, making music, dancing, and delving into colours, textures, and design, contributing to their overall developmental journey.
